    Had problems

I have bought many refurbished products over the years without any problems including a previous Homelite blower. This last one I purchased came with a lot of blemishes scratches and scuffs. The throttle trigger had too much play in it and would not rev the motor to its full RPM. I E-mailed the place I purchased it from and they were going to send me a label and another blower, after a week or so I contacted them again. Make a long story short, I got the label returned the blower and got the replacement after 3-weeks of my leaves piling up. The new blower was in much better shape, ran good and I probably would have given a better review if not for the letter I received 2 weeks later telling me the new blower was under a factory recall. They would not send me the new replacement gas tank to correct the problem and the nearest warranty shop is over 25 miles away. This will be the last Honelite after previously owning 4 others over the years.

This is the second one I’ve bought. Gave first one to a buddy after we upgraded to stihl but then our other backup went so this was an obvious choice as a backup blower. Granted, it is NOT high end commercial gear, but come on people, it’s a hundred bucks and it works fine. You get what you pay for. The thing I REALLY liked though, was I needed one in a hurry, clicked 3 day shipping and within 24 hours it was on my porch!!!!!! Serious props to the shipping department! Thanks guys .)

I purchased this as a gift for my father last Christmas. He absolutely loves this product. To assemble certain features on this blower was a task though. He was confused about how to assemble it, so he contacted the company. They helped him with the assembly. Very good purchase!!

Great deal on a Great Backpack Blower

I had been shopping in the big depot stores in my area of NH for a back pack leaf blower, and was finding even the cheapest brand costing more than $200. I found a great price at Amazon.com, but it was reconditioned, and I wanted a new one. However, I gave this a try. The price and make was totally acceptable. When it arrived I thought they made a mistake and send me a brand new one. It was packed nicely, and appeared new. I glaced at the instructions for five minutes, gassed it up; two pulls of the cord and my MightyLite was purring like a kitten. It is in my opinion everything that anyone would want in a backpack gas powered blower. It looks nice, starts easy, and does the job without stalling or any problems. I couldn’t have done better if I paid more than twice as much. Thank you for offering such a fine product at an affordable price.

This was my first backpack blower. I bought it, took it out of the box, filled it with fuel, fired it up, strapped it on, and I cleaned my yard in record time. Everything worked as it should, it was comfortable, affordable, and it looks good, too. Now I don’t know how I did my place without it. I bought a spare, and stuck in the attic!

    A piece of junk

The unit we bought failed to start after exactly one year of use. We called Homelite service center and were told this unit only has one year of warranty since it’s factory reconditioned and we should just throw it away.

Even at $99.99, it doesn’t worth the money we paid for only a few times of use. Not happy with the quality of this product at all and most likely won’t buy anything made by Homelite in the future. It’s a piece of junk!

So far this product does the job. Nice work Homelite. Had a previous model (Homelite) that lasted me 16 years. This product looks brand new out of the box.

    5 stars for the PRICE
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Let me first say, you might want to look at the reconditioned Ryobi for only $20 more. It wasn’t available when I bought this, and it averages 4 stars vs. 3.5 for this one. Some users of this blower have had bad luck with it, but it’s been a good blower for me and I’ve had it over a year now.

First and foremost, I have to stress that this 5 star review is for a blower at this price, $99. If one was to compare it to top end $450 blowers, it would rate nowhere near 5 stars. But that wouldn’t be a fair comparison.

Second, I find that THIS BLOWER OPERATES MUCH BETTER AT A MIXTURE OF 45-1 RATHER THAN THE 50-1 RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I tried 40-1 as well, but 45-1 seems to be the sweet spot where it functions most reliably with the most power.

I bought this blower to take care of my mom’s property, which is for sale. It’s 1.5 acres. I bought it thinking that the house would sell in a few months at worst. In this market, that was wishful thinking. This blower is entirely inappropriate for people who have a lot of property, unless you just need something to “get by” for a few months and you KNOW you’ll be gone for good. But for people with a lot of property to take care of who know they’ll be in their homes for at least a year or two, you need to really get the best blower you can possibly afford. This one lacks the power to blow wet leaves (and anything else that is wet) unless you want to spend hours and hours going about an inch at a time. If you have a large property, get the very best you can possibly afford. Trust me on that. If you don’t, you’ll wish you had when you end up spending 5 times more hours outside with a cheap blower. Over the course of a few short months, those hours add up to a LOT of wasted time and needlessly expended effort.

For those with say less than half an acre that that has only the need for light duty blowing, this might just be perfect for you, especially if you don’t need to blow wet material, or you can wait for a dry spell before blowing.

The only problems I’ve had with this blower are that at the recommended 50-1 fuel mixture, the power on mine hasn’t been nearly what it should be, but 45-1 has fixed that. (Also changing plugs frequently) I’ve also found I have to start it quite often by triggering to full throttle before pulling it, which can be a bit awkward. The only other problem I’ve had is idling. Mine will die unless I keep giving it a bit of gas. I’m guessing this means a throttle adjustment is needed to up the idle setting, but I haven’t bothered to find out how to do that. I’m sure it’s online and easy enough to do, but keeping it slightly triggered hasn’t bothered me. It is a bit of a nuisance though, especially for those times when I don’t give it enough gas and it does die and I have to take it off and restart it. (It always starts right back up on one pull though.)

So, overall, what you get for the price in spite of some quirks is a 5 star blower *IF* you have a small property to maintain with only light duty DRY blowing needed. However if you have a lot of property to maintain or expect to need something strong enough to blow wet material, you should definitely invest in something much more powerful. In that case get the best you can.

I purchased new blower last year, did not start this year, call and email Customer service center they get back to me after two month conversation they do not have any service center in southern CT . The service center they provide me it is 80 miles away. At last it went in garbage.

Please beware of low price it is a catch or use it for one year and dispose it. As per my experience I will not recommend this product to even my enemies.

I purchase two ZR08580 LEAF BLOWER both will not run after warm up which is 3 min.+ When you pull the the power button it stalls.I try everything to keep these Items to run to the point that I want to smash them.I know a little about small motors that this is not a very good product.I have a 2 cycle Homelite string trimmer must be 15+ yrs. old and still runs great.I am very upset with Homelite to cheapen there product.I will contact Homelite consumer to see what they have to say but if I were you I would think twice before buying this Item.I wasted more time trying to get them to run which I could of rack the whole yard by hand.

  16. The Riceman Cometh says:

    Well, it looks brand new!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
    Positives:

    1. It looked brand new despite being refurbished.

    2. Starts fairly easily despite the problem outlined in #2 below.

    3. Extremely lightweight and comfortable.

    4. It was cheap compared to other non-refurbished or commercial backpack blowers from other manufacturers (i.e. Stihl, Echo, etc.)

    5. I look very cool using the blower (that is, until the problem outlined in #3 below crops up).

    Negatives:

    1. Underpowered compared to the hand held Poulan Pro PPB2000 gas blowers that I’ve owned. Unfortunately, the Poulan blowers only last a couple of years until they die. I’ve owned three of them and they all suffered the same fate…but that’s another review.

    2. The startup procedure requires that you fully depress the trigger and then engage the Trigger lock for the throttle trigger. Unfortunately, the Trigger Lock doesn’t lock. As a workaround, I use a Velcro strap to keep the trigger depressed when starting.

    3. The upper tube constantly comes loose from the lower section of the bellows whenever I use the Throttle Control Handle in a left to right, or up and down sweeping motion. There is a thumb screw-tightened clamp on the end of the bellows that’s supposed to secure the upper tube (the tube with the throttle control handle) to the bellows. Even with the thumb screw tightened as tight as it can possible get, it’s not enough to keep the upper tube in place. Eventually, I’ll get around to using a good supply of duct to secure the two sections but in the meantime, I’ll just keep rejoining the two sections when they come apart. This flaw is extremely annoying!! I wish that Homelite used the same threaded, screw together procedure that’s used to connect the lower tube to the upper tube and the sweeper nozzles to the lower tube.

In the case of the Homelite ZR08580 MightyLite Backpack Blower, the old adage, “You get what you pay for” is without a doubt, true…at least it is in my case.

+ Great price – other units I invesigated were $250-$500.

    + Unit arrived quickly.

    + Unit started easily.

    - Unit stalled when you gave it gas :-(

+ Contacted Homelite 800# on a Sunday and spoke to a live person!

+ It simply needs a carberator adjustment

    - Only Homelite service dealers can adjust ’cause it takes a proprietary tool that only the dealers have :-(

+ Dealer did the adjustment on-the-spot when I took it in.

+ It’s worked fine ever since (about 2 hours run time)

Too bad the Recon place isn’t more consciencious – unit obviously wasn’t even started and verified running. Makes one wonder what other steps in the recon process they blew off.

IT DOES BLOW!! BUT NOT THE WAY IT SUPPOSE TO? (JUNK)
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my son since he did not want one of the bulky blowers that i have, to use around the yard and to do a few yard clean ups! he wanted something lite weight! Now I’m not comparing this to a commercial blower! But i am to my old craftsman hand held! and I’m not a big fan of homelite products i would have went with a craftsman or ryobi for home use!.

But the price was right and so i figured i would give it a try!

No problems with the engine at first, now it’s been 3 months and it wont start!

It’s is lite in weight and the backpack has some advantages when doing large volumes but keep in mind also that if trying to use in certain areas you wont be able to get to them as good as a hand held blower because the blower is right handed! you can’t bounce it around from hand to hand!. as for power I’m not impressed. i have a hand held that produces 180 MPH also and i feel that the hand held is stronger then this machine! and that only cost me $40 (used). it looks a lot more impressive then it actual is! A lot of people will look at this and think there getting what the big boys use at a fraction of the price! trust me your not. the only thing your getting is the backpack effect nothing more! THIS ITEM IS JUNK!

if you want power buy a good used commercial blower or go with a hand held for less money, this machine is more show then it is go! Don’t waste your time or money on this blower.. It does blow but not the way it suppose to!!! 2 STARS WAS TO GOOD FOR THIS CRAP!

    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I read the reviews here and was a little concerned that this blower wouldn’t run out of the box–or somehow, I wouldn’t be happy…but, I am very pleased with this backpack-blower.

It looked brand new all over, started up and ran great. It puts out a good amount of air–similar to the hand-held Homelite blower I owned previously. The big benefit here is you have no fatigue and vibration or heavy weight in your arm while using for extended periods.

However, if you are looking for a commercial-grade backpack blower that puts out a hurricane of wind force, this unit may disappoint you. As I mentioned before, it puts out about the same volume and force of air as their hand-held unit. I use the blower for leaf removal in my heavily wooded backyard and it worked just fine for me.

First 1 wouldn’t run, died every time you gave it gas. Amazon replaced with 1 but it had broken parts when it arrived. The only good thing about these blowers is that Amazon stood behind them and refunded my money. Bad blowers, good merchant.

    Great Blower… Great Price!

I desided to purchase this reconditioned (refurbished) machine when I saw the price, and am I glad I did! I’ve used the blower this summer to blow grass clippings off my sidewalks (I have a corner lot) and driveway. Basically a steady walking pace up and back and this machine makes quick work of the cleanup. I used it this fall to push leaves from beds, around trees, and away from the fence line onto the lawn where my mower mulched and bagged the leaves. Again, this blower made the chore almost effortless. I am very satisfied. The machine started first time, right out of the box, and being a backpack design, it’s 16 pound weight easy nicely distributed and barely noticable. My machine came through looking like new, no blemishes and only a tag stating it’s reconditioned.

We received the backpack blower, followed the instructions and it was almost impossible to start. Finally got it started and it idled but every time I tried to accelerate it would die. I did everything according to the instructions and obviously there was a serious problem with the product. Very poor quality control. Contacted Amazon and this item cannot be returned so they credited my account. I went ahead and ordered a Ryobi reconditioned unit… received it and no manual, no instructions. Did get it started, idles great but it has such a bad vibration that after using it 5 minutes my right hand was numb and my lower back was numb. Called Amazon to inform them of the poor quality of these remanufactured units. They were very nice but there was nothing they could do. I now have it at the shop and a driveway full of leaves waiting for the repair. I won’t make this mistake again. It’s been almost a month since I originally ordered the first backpack blower. Don’t mistake, Amazon handled this fine, but the product was not what it was advertised to be in good working order.

The product is still in the shop. It would not start out of the box. It probably will need a new carburator according the Homelite distributor. In general, it has been very discouraging.

    Gas lines reversed!
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
As others have stated in reviewing this blower…the gas lines were reversed even though it was suppose to have been checked out as a factory reconditioned blower. However, it would not stay running and the priming bulb would not prime. I had to take it to a factory authorized repair shop to have the lines reversed. Also the throttle trigger has a button that is suppose to lock the throttle fully open in order to start the blower…it needed to be repaired as well. Once the shop repaired those items which were still under a one year warranty…blower works great! Just a HASSLE that these items were not truly reconditioned at the factory and I had to be responsible to suggest the needed repairs at my local shop. Amazon was excellent with with fast delivery…just faulty product.

So far so good. For a supposed reconditioned item (it looks brand new) I’m completely satisfied. Took a little bit to figure out how the straps are oriented (still don’t think I have it right) but its a heck of a lot easier to walk around my property with the think on my shoulders/back as opposed to flipping from one arm to the other
